Memorial Programs Established
Although there were many blessings for Halfway Home Pet Rescue, Inc., a 501c3 charitable animal shelter, this past year, President Norma Milton reflects that they lost two very dedicated and loved supporters of the animal welfare organization – Clarissa T. Bickford of Etna, ME and Marie Joyce Allen of Caribou. “There are a few people who you just cannot replace in their work, commitment and love for animals. When you lose this person, you mourn with their family and when the family continues to support the shelter work and reflects that lost love, you want to commemorate their continued work in memory of that cherished animal lover and volunteer.” More about the programs ...

Halfway Home Pet Rescue gets local business donations
Presque Isle, ME - During the month of December, employees of Thompson-Hamel, LLC and Robert Thompson’s accounting firm set up a box in their offices to collect cash and pet supply donations for Halfway Home Pet Rescue and on December 18th Brian Hamel, Managing Partner of Thompson-Hamel, LLC, and Sharon Watson, an Associate at Thompson-Hamel, represented the two firms at Halfway Home Pet Rescue’s headquarters in Caribou and presented its President, Norma Milton, with these very generous donations. Book special
Halfway Home Pet Rescue has received 30 books of "The Christmas Note" as written by Skeeter Davis & Cathie Pelletier, and illustrated by Carl E. Hileman. These special gift books are personally autographed by Davis, Pelletier and Hileman. The story features the Skeeter Davis' story of her 10th Christmas with her siblings in the hills of Dry Ridge, Kentucky in the days of oil lamps and candles. It is a story of a child's love, heartbreak, faith and the growth of Davis' inner joy while learning the true meaning of Christmas.

These limited editions of the autographed "The Christmas Note" can be purchased by calling Norma Milton at 492-1722. The cost is $20.00 each, add $5.00 for shipping and handling if to be mailed. Newest Board Member
Please welcome our newest member of Halfway Home Pet Rescue Board of Directors, Sharon Watson. Sharon
replaces Everett Milton who passed away on March 3, and she will continue her term of office as board secretary and memorial chair. Read about her background and interest in animal welfare.
Adopt an older cat?
Kittens are adorable and fun. But what about the older cat, the so-called "unadoptable" cat? Read about Amber, a sweet 11 year old kitty who proves that the older cat can be the perfect fit.
Why Spay or Neuter?
An adult female cat can have at least 3 litters per year and an unneutered male cat can easily impregnant over 100 females per year. With the early warm weather this month, HHPR cautions pet owners to spay/neuter their pets. These roaming unsterilized pets will be responsible for thousands of homeless kittens by late May and throughout the summer months.
Call the state Help Fix ME program at 1-800 367-1317 for a Fix Me Voucher for only $10.00. If they are currently short on funding, try calling quite early (8 am) the first day of each month. Consider talking with a vet office and prepaying $10.00 or so a month until you have a credit for the cost of spaying or neutering your pet. If all this fails, call us at 492-1722 and we will see if we have enough HHPR funds to partially help you. Our funding is running very tight, but we really try to help where we can. There is a way to spay -- but we all have to pitch in and get-rrrr-done.

Pet Food Collection
We are in need of continuous food supplies to help out these hurting families who love their pets but who are hurting financially and may have to give them to a shelter if we don't help them with food supplies. At our Adoption Fairs we'll have a pet food donation basket for your convenience.
We continue to greatly appreciate your returnable bottles and cans at 88 Bennett Drive Redemption.
Our vet bills are running high and our donations are running low. Any help, even a dollor or two is greatly appreciated.

2009 Annual Report
We had a very busy year for a new rescue. We have received our 501c3 which now enables us to write grants for spay and neuter program as well as other needed items.
In 2009, we helped a total of 170 animals, most of them strays, however, about a dozen of them were low-income families needing help. We also helped a couple of low-income families with one-time vet medical expenses. These special situations were done on the recommendation of vet or social worker involved with the family.
