Support Halfway Home Pet Rescue
We are dedicated to improving the quality of life for stray animals in Aroostook County: providing medical care (including sterilization surgery), socialization of stray cats, Trap/Neuter/Release of feral cats or rehabilitation/adoption when possible, and finding quality home environments. Medical care: leukemia testing, wormings, flea removal, all age appropriate shots, ear care. All adult cats are spay/neutered before adoption and all kittens are adopted with full paid spay/neuter vouchers for when they are old enough for surgery. This is an average $200 medical cost per cat. Our cats, over 5 years of age, are adopted free of charge to good homes; under the age of 5 years have an adoption fee of only $50.
We work hard to raise the funds for general daily and medical care. Finding homes is our greatest priority. We are an all-volunteer no-kill shelter. Animals who come to us and who might be considered "unadoptable" for reasons of age or condition will NOT be euthanized based on age or special needs. Each animal is a unique case that is reviewed with veterinary consult and we strive to provide the best solution for the welfare of the animal.
For tax purposes, our 501c3 EID number is 94-3471733. To maximize your donation, we do not subtract adminstrative costs. However, online payments have a processing fee.
How did we do in 2011?
279 cats came through HHPR. 96 were strays, 120 were owner surrendered, 32 ferals, 14 from low income situations, and were 17 born at HHPR.

HHPR facilitated 195 adoptions in 2011. Unfortunately, we lost 33 kittens to disease, 4 cats required euthanasia due to extreme illness, 1 was returned to its owner, 28 became barn cats and the 8 low income situations received assistance.
Donations
Monetary Donations are gratefully accepted to support the greatest need of the shelter, whether it is the free pet food pantry or medical care of shelter pets. The Pet Food Pantry provides pet food for families who are unable to feed their pets. This allows them to keep their beloved animals at home instead of surrendering to a shelter. More about the Pantry here.

Greatest need
We see a lot of animals come and go. Some come with basic issues of malnutrition and parasites while others have more serious conditions that become known after their veterinary exam. Your donation to the Greatest Need will be applied to the current shelter situation.
Building Fund
We are growing! And we need a suitable building where we can provide comfortable housing for the animals and office space, for a start. Our goal is to ensure that HHPR continues to thrive and become self-sustaining. We have a small building fund established and we welcome any size donation. If you know of a possible building in the Caribou area, please contact us.
Spay/Neuter Program
Pets of spay/neuter age are provided this procedure before they are adopted. If not of age when adopted, we provide a voucher that helps reduce the cost to you. Contributing to this fund will ensure that we can continue to offer this service.
Memorial
Donations can be made to HHPR as a memorial honor. Please indicate the honoree's name and to whom we can send notification of the memorial.
Gift
Don't know what to get an animal lover for a special occasion? Why not donate to HHPR in their name? Please indicate to whom the gift is being made and where we can send notification.
Special Needs
Sometimes we receive pets considered "unadoptable" due to special needs such as blindness, deafness, limb amputation, or age. Because we are a "no-kill" shelter, these special ones have a home with us. If you would like to support this program, use the donation button below. If you are interested in adopting or fostering a special needs cat, please contact us.
Toby says Thank You. Our little Toby is a special cat. When he was a kitten he suffered abuse that left him mentally challenged. He lives and works at HHPR, teaching the strays and ferals how to play and trust people.
